Job Description

We are looking for a Buyer who can under general supervision manage all aspects of supply and demand within their commodity from planning, buying, expediting, delivery query management and invoice query management.   Alert all stakeholders to any issues regarding supply and ensure continuous communication and action plan is in place to rectify situation.  Develop good working relationships with key suppliers ensuring clear communication on company needs and expectations. 

Your duties will include:      

  • Using JD Edwards ERP/MRP system, the buyer will manage all aspects of supply and demand within their commodity group from planning, buying, expediting, delivery and invoice queries
  • Where required remote buying for other group sites from the centralised purchasing function
  • Buying product for production builds and parts sale demand communicating availability to stakeholders 
  • Responsibility for all communication to their supplier including quality issues, supply issues and new product introductions
  • Manage QCD (Quality Cost Delivery) improvements with suppliers
  • Manage and report on market prices for responsible group of commodities
  • Where required arrange meetings or visits to suppliers and provide details of agreements and opportunities identified on such a visit
  • Handle negotiate contracts and prices with current and potential new suppliers
  • Manage the addition of new suppliers to the Company
  • Attendance meetings and provide information relative to the introduction of new products
  • Make available details of products purchased that are likely to impact product build and spare part sales and provide an action plan to alleviate supply issues
  • Report on non-availability for spare sales and or production shortages
  • Manage returns to suppliers and subsequent credit or FOC re-supply
  • Ensuring engineering changes are addressed with supplier where required
  • Participate in make versus buy projects
  • Manage specific specialised projects as requested

The Successful Applicant
To be considered for this Buyer role you will need to have;

  • Degree level of education ideally within an engineering discipline
  • CIPS qualification or working to achieve CIPS would be beneficial
  • Experience of working as a buyer within a Purchasing function in heavy industry
  • Strong communication and negotiation skills
  • Strong problem solving skills
  • Knowledge of ERP/MRP systems – ideally JD Edwards but training will be given
  • Excellent IT skills particularly Excel
  • Ability to work well on own initiative and as part of a team
