Our client, an innovative environmental consultancy are seeking a Production Operative to join their business and be part of an exciting project, focusing on the development of green energy from organic materials using Anaerobic Digestion. The is a varied role and will be based in the Research & Development facility and will contribute to the development of sustainable green fuels, such as biomethane and biohydrogen.

They are seeking someone to help them operate their pilot AD plant and to ensure it runs efficiently. You will be responsible for the operation and maintenance of a pilot anaerobic digestion alongside performing day-to-day duties and primarily ensuring the smooth operation of the facility to support the timely delivery of test protocols. The working hours for this role are Monday-Friday 9am-5pm or 8am-4pm

Role overview:
  • Ensure that tasks are completed in line with health and safety requirements
  • The preparation and pre-treatment of feedstocks
  • The loading of feedstocks into the digester tanks
  • The end-to-end processing of waste and energy crops into biogas using a purpose-built pilot plant
  • Monitoring the plant control system (SCADA) and responding accordingly
  • Maintenance of tanks, pumps and plumbing equipment to ensure effective operation of the plant
  • Application of chemicals and additives in accordance with test protocols
  • The collection and safe storage of digestate in tanks or IBC's
  • Supervision and key holding for the test facility
  • Taking readings, samples & performing basic lab tests on feedstock & digestate
  • Undertake planned and corrective maintenance activities
  • Support the continuous improvement of the facility & assist with process refinements
  • Occasional visits to Biogas plants for other tasks and projects
Skills required:
  • Previous experience of working on a mobile AD plant desirable but not essential
  • Experience in an industrial related field, ideally Anaerobic Digestion or waste recycling desirable but not essential
  • High SHEQ standards and sound knowledge of safety practices
  • A full driving licence essential

Suitable for:
  • Those who have worked in biogas, AD, chemical manufacturing, water industry or any industry with an emphasis on the use of pressure vessels, tanks, pipes and pumps.
  • This role would also perhaps suit someone with an agricultural or rural background who is comfortable with mechanical equipment, maintenance of pumps/plumbing and mucky boots.
