The position of Principal Design Engineer is suited to Mechanical / Aerospace Engineers who have experience of working in a dynamic, multi-disciplinary environment on a diverse range of engineering programmes.
Individuals will have experience of technically leading multi-disciplinary engineering teams that can develop concepts through to manufacturing definition. They will be expected to understand classic design & manufacturing processes and metallic material properties, and be capable of guiding more junior engineers through the fundamentals.
They will be required to pro-actively identify and resolve technical problems and rationally develop optimal solutions to meet specification through the use of appropriate tools and engineering calculation.
Effective written and verbal communication of solutions to both internal auditors and the client is a pre-requisite.
Team working and demonstration of the ability to take ownership of the key technical aspects of programmes of work are expected based upon a minimum of 12 years post graduate (or equivalent) experience in a Gas Turbine related field. The ability to provide guidance and mentoring of less experienced Engineers within a team is a requirement.
Experience of contributing to the generation of project plans and application of judgement on the optimal technical quality to meet time-scales would be expected.

Candidates will have experience of leading multi-disciplinary engineering teams to meet time, quality and budgetary objectives - this experience should have been gained within a Gas Turbine related environment
Qualified to Degree level and have experience of managing engineering activities within a multi-disciplinary environment, delivering final hardware definition
An in-depth understanding of the design process and relevant tools for the analysis and down selection of alternative solutions, including an appreciation of the interaction between various engineering and programme disciplines
A considered and creative approach to problem solving which supports the creation of solutions meeting the product specification
Experience of technical leadership and taking technical responsibility on projects involving relevant disciplines such as:
Rotating or high speed machinery design and verification
High temperature and pressure machinery design and verification
Mechanics & selection of materials
Knowledge of manufacturing processes and application
Knowledge of component Mechanical Integrity requirements and analytical processes
Aerospace or power generation design experience, in particular Gas Turbines
CAD modelling experience (in particular Siemens NX)
Appreciation of fluid mechanics & aerodynamics
Experience of Project Management & Risk Management and commercial awareness
